This week is "Enterprise Week"

Enterprise Week is almost half done, so what have you done that's enterprising? OK, so I'm a little late to the party. But, I only found out yesterday and maybe it's escaped your notice too? I thought I'd give it a 'heads up', just in case. Erm, fortunately, I don't claim to be a news site....

Anyway, Enterprise Week is a whole host of events meant to encourage us Brits to be more enterprising. The week is "aimed at inspiring young people (14-30) to have ideas and make them happen." Which is kind of what I am trying to do here, in my own small way.

Find out all about Enterprise Week and what events are on in your area by visiting their website here: Enterprise Week.

At the same time, you could take the bull by the horns and do something really enterprising this week - rather than just reading about it or hearing what other folks have done. You know, there's only so much you can read or learn. Ultimately, you just have to go for it and damned the consequences!

One enterprising thing you could do is enter the Hand-making Heroes Handmade Gift Competition I am running with my employer, pressies4princesses (where I am managing partner). It's a great opportunity to get a headstart for your new enterprise. Sorry, couldn't resist another plug.

If you're already in business, you could decide to try something really different this week. Perhaps some risque advertising? Or, getting your company or work featured in the local newspaper (go on, phone that editor). Why not start a blog? How about doing a mailshot or a leaflet drop. Altenatively, you could always turn your business idea on its head. If you sell online, try party plan or vice versa. Ever considered a direct response advert?

If you're still a wage slave, then why not quit your job? It's tough to nigh on impossible starting and running a business in your spare time. I know, I have tried. Then I worked it out... you can work part time and do your thing two days a week. But, you have to take a 40% pay cut, because you're only working a three day week. Trouble is, you're never available when people want you and customers don't take you seriously, etc, etc. And, unfortunately, you're spending 60% of your productive time working to maintain the status quo; to standstill. That can't make sense?! Quit your job and work full-time, and you should achieve success 60% faster? Or, at the very least, find out 60% sooner whether your business was a good idea or not!

Anyway, whether you are in business or just thinking about it, Enterprise Week is just the excuse you need to be bold and brave, to think big, and GO FOR IT!

All the best

Steve
